1. Overview

A Prickly Pear Studio LLC ("we", "our", or "us") develops software applications with privacy as a foundational requirement. This Privacy Policy explains how Universal Smart TV Remote ("SmartRemote", "the app") handles data and device permissions.

2. Zero Personal Data Collection

We do not collect, store, sell, or transmit any personal data, identifiers, location records, or usage telemetry to remote servers.

  • No user account or login is required to use the application.
  • No advertising SDKs or third-party tracking libraries are bundled in the application.
  • No advertising identifiers (such as Google Advertising ID / AAID) are requested or accessed.
  • No analytics services monitor your button presses, TV brands, or viewing habits.

3. Application Permissions and Device Operations

SmartRemote requests only the system permissions necessary to discover and control television equipment:

Local Network and Wi-Fi Access

Used strictly to discover and communicate with smart TVs (Roku, Samsung Tizen, LG webOS, and Android TV) connected to your local home network. Network packets travel directly between your phone and your TV over your local Wi-Fi router. No commands or network packets leave your home network.

Microphone (Audio Recording)

Used solely for push-to-talk voice search on paired Android TV devices. Audio recording activates only while you press and hold the voice search button. The audio stream passes directly to the paired Android TV using the local Android TV Remote protocol. Voice data is never recorded to disk, analyzed by us, or sent to external servers.

Infrared (IR) Transmitter

Used on phones equipped with a built-in consumer infrared transmitter to emit standard infrared control signals to legacy televisions without requiring network access.

4. In-App Purchases and Subscriptions

In-app purchases and subscriptions are handled entirely by Google Play Billing. Payment transactions, billing details, and credit card data are processed by Google under the Google Payments Terms of Service. We do not process, receive, or store your payment details.

5. Local Data Storage

Paired TV device configurations, custom channel shortcuts, and local user preferences remain on your device using Android encrypted shared preferences and local databases. You can clear this data at any time by clearing application storage in Android Settings or by uninstalling the app.

6. Children's Privacy

The application does not collect personal information from anyone, including children under 13 years of age.
